Russell Reynolds on HF Exec Demand

01/12/2004 Demand for executives in hedge funds stronger in 2004, says report

Reuters reports according to Russell Reynold’s fifth annual investment management recruiting trends report, overall hiring of retail mutual fund portfolio managers slowed in 2004 as the effects of the improper trading scandal lingered. According to the report, the increased regulatory climate resulting from the scandal boosted demand and compensation for fund compliance staff and selected senior-level investment executives this year. Demand and compensation was also stronger in 2004 for executives in wealth management, hedge funds and separate accounts. The report found that despite the pockets of demand, overall mutual fund portfolio management hiring was down in 2004 compared with previous years. However, the report said recruitment for international equity portfolio managers has made a comeback. In particular, Asia, Latin America and emerging market specialists have experienced new-found demand for their skills after several years of little to no interest.
