Schroders to use alternatives in new fundMon September 06, 2004 07:22 AM ET LONDON, Sept 6 (Reuters)
British fund manager Schroder Investment Management SDR.L is to include hedge funds, private equity and property as alternatives in one of its new multi-manager products available to investors from Monday.
The Schroder S&P High Alpha Fund will have the opportunity to invest up to 10 percent in these alternative investments, between 70-100 percent in equities and up to 15 percent in bonds.
A second more conservative multi-manager portfolio, the Schroder S&P Strategic Balanced Fund will invest up to 85 percent in equities, up to 20 percent in bonds and up to 10 percent in cash.
"Multi-managers are an excellent way to access a broadly diversified portfolio, without investors themselves having to spend hours researching and monitoring the underlying funds," Andrew Yeadon, Head of Multi-Manager at Schroders said.
The multi-manager team will tap into the research of Standard & Poor's analysts, who will supply Schroders with a short list of 200 funds to help identify the best funds.
Schroders will then undertake their own research to select the 12-15 funds which will be included in the portfolios.
